I wonder if the right call wouldn't be impose a LOC limit on contributions (sensibly chosen for the combination of language/framework/toolset).

I quite like this direction. Limit new contributors to small contributions, and then relax restrictions as more of their contributions are accepted.

For all we know, AI tech companies could theoretically have converted all of the "acquired" (ahem!) training set material into base64 and used it for training as well, just like you would encode say japanese romaji or hebrew written in the english alphabet.

Unlikely that every company would have bothered to do this.

'Yes, I know we already trained on all that data, but now I want you to convert to base64 and train it again! at enormous cost!'

On the contrary, it could be a deliberate attempt to augment or diversify the dataset.

This is interesting. Would this mean less space for hallucination as well (depending on the breadth of knowledge applied to a specific task)?

> Are we getting A-B tested?

Yes, all the time.

And if autonomous weapons become the norm, _there will never be_.

Imagine a future where people just don't question wars on their ethical basis, since it happens far away and "no one is hurt".

I think its a matter of the chonkers feeling like you're getting what you're paying for. "This thing is so expensive! WHY is it so thin?"

Of course the zeitgeist keeps changing and what made sense yesterday might look like madness for those that aren't following things closely. As for myself, I very much prefer "slightly chonkier, but better heat dissipation" (coming from owning an intel mb pro and using it on my lap often).

> Apple, the masters of UI, have wisely not forced the iPhone interface into MacOS.

oh no

(tbh surprisingly few references to Apple otherwise)

A wise person once said "scrum turns dysfunctional teams into average teams. It also turns highly-motivated teams into average teams".

Yeah its more like "quick, its friday night and someone just got bombed, toggle that feature on"

Its getting hard for the junior and mid-level models.
